Romeo is an impulsive character who lets his emotions dictate his actions – “…How sweet is love itself possessed…”
Shakespeare uses ship metaphor to show fate being in control of Romeo’s life. “…a sail, a sail!” says Romeo when he see’s the nurse coming. This is linking the way that the wind carries a ship through the sail just like news is being carried between Romeo and Juliet. The idea of fate comes into this by if at any point the nurse decided to stop carrying news between the two main characters, the outcome of the play would by completely different much like a ship would change it’s course if the wind changed.
Friar Lawrence warns Romeo that marrying Juliet could have bad consequences “wisely and slow, they stumble that run fast.”
